Understanding the differences between MDM, MAM, EMM & UEM

Traditionally management of mobile devices has been known as MDM, or Mobile Device Management. This is the term we have been using since early days of Airwatch and BlackBerry. Now we are seeing terms such as Mobile App Management (MAM), Enterprise Mobnility Manangement (EMM), and Unified Endpoint Management (UEM that can easily cause confusion. Android in the Enterprise

15th Feb 2019.

Android in the Enterprise

At the end of 2017 Google made an announcement regarding the future of EMM and Android devices.  Except for some technical forums this went largely unnoticed.  The question for any organisation that have android devices deployed within their business, is what does this mean for my Android devices? What Google announced is that with effect from Android Q, due for release sometime this year 2019, the traditional Device Administrator management method will no longer be available, and devices will need to enrol using the management method known as Android Enterprise Work Profile method. Further to this which we will discuss later in this document what happens to my legacy android devices enrolled, will they continue to work, will I be able to manage them, do I need to get rid of them and refresh the whole estate.

Yet challenges include higher security risks, cited by 47% of respondents, and lack of employee knowledge in how to use the solutions (45%).

Nearly 60,000 GDPR data breach notifications, but only 91 fines

11th Feb 2019.

Nearly 60,000 GDPR data breach notifications, but only 91 fines.

The low number of fines relative to the volume of reported breaches might be due to over-extended regulators, says DLA Piper report. Since the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect in May 2018, EU organisations have reported almost 60,000 data breaches, but so far fewer than 100 fines have been issued by regulators.
